American Heroes & American Heritage (Ages: Grade School)
Don Koonce, citizen soldier, loves America. He
served a 30 year career in the Missouri Army National Guard which included a
17 month deployment to Iraq as commander of the 203rd Combat Heavy Battalion
(2003-2004) and retired in September, 2006. For several years, Don has been
traveling extensively and telling stories of America and her heroes to the
youth of Missouri and surrounding states talking to an average of more than
a thousand children per week. While the major media seems to spend so much
time telling us what’s wrong, he believes that we need to look for what is
right, and tell those stories to inspire and educate America’s youth helping
ensure and improve America’s future.
