Conclusion
We, We the People, we cannot and will
not win this struggle if we continue to embrace the mindset that someone
else will do the dirty work, that government will protect us.
I’ve heard it said that, “No one invests in
ideas anymore.” This is a dangerous and naïve belief and it is a statement
that flies in the face of reality. For it is reality that our enemy – those
who planned and executed the attacks of September 11th, those who are
killing our soldiers, those who are plotting the American Hiroshima, those
who aspire to establish a global Islamist Caliphate – it is a reality that
our enemy most certainly invests in ideas.
We cannot and will not win this struggle
unless each and every one of us works cohesively to motivate our elected
officials to honestly engage this quintessential challenge of our
generation. We must demand that they place good government, in the form of
affectively protecting the American people and the homeland, over the
narcissism of political opportunity.
“What constitutes the bulwark of our own
liberty and independence? It is not our frowning battlements, our bristling
sea coasts, the guns of our war steamers, or the strength of our gallant and
disciplined army. These are not our reliance against a resumption of tyranny
in our fair land. All of them may be turned against our liberties, without
making us stronger or weaker for the struggle. Our reliance is in the love
of liberty which God has planted in our bosoms. Our defense is in the
preservation of the spirit which prizes liberty as the heritage of all men,
in all lands, every where. Destroy this spirit, and you have planted the
seeds of despotism around your own doors.”
-- Abraham Lincoln
